Power Control Technique of a Multiport Converter for Low Voltage Standalone Solar PV Applications

This paper introduces an approach to the power control technique of a non-isolated DC-DC multiport converter for low voltage standalone solar PV (photovoltaic) applications, incorporating a single inductor. The system utilizes an advanced time-sharing voltage-mode control strategy to manage power distribution between the PV array, rechargeable battery, and DC load. This control strategy maintains a stable DC load voltage and simultaneously achieves the optimal Global Maximum Power Point (GMPP) for the solar PV system with or without partially shaded. The design of the converter is such that it can operates at four different modes such as dual input buck mode (DIBuM), dual output boost mode (DOBoM), dual output buck-boost mode (DOBuBoM) and buck converter with battery charge control mode (BCBCCM). The comprehensive implementation details of this the converter and control scheme are thoroughly explained in this paper. Design and the simulation results for all four modes with dynamic mode changing are shown with varying irradiance and DC load demand.
