Resilient PMSM Motor Control: Advanced Fault-Tolerant Strategies for Open-Phase Faults

To ensure continuous and reliable motor operation, fault detection and localization are crucial to preventing system failure. This paper examines the optimised MPCC approach based fault tolerant control of PMSM-based drives. Furthermore, comprehensive modeling, analyses, and performance assessments for validation are provided under both healthy and open-phase fault conditions. The proposed dual-framework MPCC model extends the control horizons, improving control accuracy and system performance. The OCF diagnosis is achieved by monitoring the average current and analyzing variations in the cost function while fault localization is carried out by using the polarity of normalized <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\alpha\beta$</tex> - average current under diverse OCF conditions. The results indicate that the system response is found satisfactory under both healthy and faulty test conditions.
