Dual Virtual Inertia Control of Interlinking Converter in Hybrid Microgrid
This paper presents a dual virtual inertia control (DVIC) for the interlinking converter (ILC) in a hybrid microgrid (HMG). The AC and DC section control scheme includes primary and secondary controls. The primary control utilizes virtual synchronous generator (VSG) control, while the secondary control restores the frequency and voltages of the AC and DC sections via a proportional-integral (PI) controller. In the interlinking (IL) section, the proposed control incorporates virtually coupled emulated dual virtual synchronous machines (VSMs) on the ILC. These dual VSMs regulate the active and reactive power of the ILC. The proposed control enhances the frequency nadir and rate of change of frequency (ROCOF) on the AC side or the DC voltage nadir and the DC side rate of change of voltage (ROCOV), depending on the ILC virtual inertia value. The control also enhances the AC voltage nadir and ROCOV. Simulation studies are performed and compared with the traditional method to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control under transient conditions.
