Enhancing Drive Performance using Mixed-Order Flux Observer driven Sensorless Control of PMSM

This paper addresses the widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and the importance of efficient control, cost-effectiveness, and resilience performance. Therefore, sensorless motor control is used, which relies on a flux observer to estimate position and speed without a physical sensor. This paper presents a novel approach to enhancing the performance of electric drive systems by implementing sensorless control using a Mixed-Order (MO) Integral-based rotor Flux Observer. Traditional electric drives require sensors for performance monitoring and control, adding complexity, cost, and potential points of failure. The proposed MO-based flux observer offers a viable sensorless control solution that improves reliability and reduces position-tracking errors, even in the presence of DC offsets. The effectiveness of second, third, and mixed order-based flux observers are presented. Simulation results demonstrate significant improvements in system performance, validating the effectiveness and finding satisfactory system response.
