Diamond(m-switch) Converter Topology for Four-Phase Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) Drives

This paper presents Diamond converter(m-switch converter) topology for four-phase switched reluctance motor(SRM) drives, which reduces the number of switches to half when compared to Asymmetrical bridge converter(AHB) and does not have any additional capacitance when compared to split capacitor(SC) converter. At the beginning operation principle, and electrical equations are analyzed based on an SRM with double-phase excitation. Diamond converter is comparatively investigated with a both AHB and SC converter with a four-phase SRM. Steady-state and transient performances of the converters are discussed and compared by the means of simulations. Further, Direct Instantaneous Torques Control(DITC) has been implemented to control the speed of SRM using this novel converter.
