Approximation of Higher Order Fuel Cell System Employing Error Minimization

In this presented research work, the higher order (HO) hydrogen fuel cell (FC) system is approximated to lower order (LO) model. The oxygen excess factor (OEF) is one of the important criterion which maintains the flow of oxygen in FC stack, specifically in case of proton exchange membrane (PEM) type FCs. Similarly, FC output is also dependent on developed FC stack voltage. The OEF and stack voltage, need efficient controller for FC operation. The presented research proposal provides the approximated order FC model for eighth order FC system. The approximation is done with the help of minimization of errors between time moments and Markov parameters of HO FC system and its desired second order FC model. The optimized coefficients of unknown second order FC model is obtained by employing jaya optimization (JO) algorithm by ensuring the stability and zero steady state error conditions for better FC model. In the support of proposed FC model, comparative analysis of responses and tabular data are also done against the models ascertained using other approximation approaches.
