Parameter Estimation and Optimal Charging Discharging Pattern for Supercapacitor

Charging and discharging patterns of supercapacitors play a crucial role in estimating the parameters that decide the overall performance, efficiency, and suitability for many applications. Engineers and researchers focus on optimizing these parameters to enhance the capabilities and reliability of supercapacitor-based systems. This paper focuses on identifying the optimal charging and discharging pattern for a supercapacitor to estimate the optimum values of the parameters to realize an accurate model. The experimental results are validated by simulating a three-branch model named Zubieta model. Later, the errors between the actual voltage and the estimated voltage are compared. It is found that most of the errors are minimum with a pattern with a long rest period and the multiple cycle pattern with a short rest period is the second best minimum pattern in the charging and discharging patterns. It comes to know that rest time and cyclic process play an important role in deciding the optimal pattern for different applications like high-power electrical and low-power electronics applications.
