Hybrid Converter with Simultaneous DC and AC Outputs

This paper introduces a novel hybrid converter topology capable of delivering both DC and AC outputs concurrently. The core component of this hybrid converter is the Conventional Positive Output Elementary Superlift Luo (POESL) converter. Unlike traditional converters, which typically handle either DC or AC loads separately, this hybrid topology combines both functionalities. By utilizing small DC inputs, the hybrid converter achieves a significantly larger DC output―up to three times the input voltage. This feature is particularly advantageous for applications requiring high DC voltage levels. The innovation lies in introducing an AC output alongside the DC output. To achieve this, an inverter with four switches is inserted into the single switch of the POESL converter. These switches are controlled using unipolar sine pulse-width modulation (PWM). The entire hybrid converter topology is meticulously modelled and simulated in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The simulation results validate the feasibility of achieving both DC and sinusoidal AC outputs simultaneously.
