A Fault Tolerant N-Level Isolated Inverter Topology to Handle All Open Circuit Switch Faults Using Output Voltage Deviation Technique

In this paper, an isolated cascaded H-Bridge (ICHB) is reconfigured to create a fully fault-tolerant (FT) topology, where one leg of the H - Bridge operates as the active leg and the other serves as the FT leg. The proposed topology can function under single, multiple, or fully faulty conditions without increasing the device count compared to conventional FT ICHB structures, thereby incurring no additional cost. Additionally, the FT technique operates independently of switching methods and requires only two sensors (output voltage and current). The performance of the proposed method is evaluated against existing techniques to demonstrate its superiority. The effectiveness of the proposed topology is validated through real-time simulations using MATLAB and OPAL-RT.
