A Novel Design of Switched Reluctance Machine Using the Rotor of Synchronous Reluctance Machine
In this paper, a new design of Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM) has been proposed, where the rotor of a conventional SRM has been replaced by the rotor of a Synchronous Reluctance Machine (SyRM). The new design is named SRM-SyRM. It has been shown that this machine can function as a SRM. The presence of flux barriers on the SyRM rotor serves the purpose to create the difference in inductance between the aligned and the un-aligned positions for SRM operation. Variation of torque and torque ripple have been studied for changes in number of barriers and rib width of the SyRM rotor.
