Performance Characteristics Assessment of Dual Rotor Single Stator Five-Phase Surface-Inset PMSG for Hydroelectric Systems

This paper investigates the characteristics of the Dual Rotor Single Stator Five-Phase Surface-Inset Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (DRSSFPSI-PMSG) for hydroelectric systems. The dual rotor configuration includes two-sets of eight magnetic poles, while the single stator features two-sets of balanced five-phase windings. This distinctive rotor- stator design and the multi-phase system enhance power density and reliability of the generator. For design and performance assessment, both magnetostatic and transient analyses are employed. Key parameters such as generated voltage, voltage versus speed, output voltage versus current load, and efficiency versus load current are thoroughly analysed for the DRSSFPSI-PMSG. The comprehensive evaluation indicates that the proposed generator exhibits robustness, reliability, and significantly higher efficiency. These advantages make the generator particularly well-suited for hydroelectric applications.
