Optimized Model Predictive Current Control for Enhanced Light Commercial Vehicle Performance

This paper presents the optimized Model Predictive Current Control (MPCC) for Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM)-based Light Commercial Vehicle drives. This study enhances the conventional MPC approach by introducing a selection horizon of two control intervals, aiming to reduce the switching frequency in the TPTL inverter by maintaining optimal VVs across consecutive periods. The dual-framework MPC model efficiently controls motor variables while managing the trade-offs between dynamic performance and computational complexity. The efficacy of current THD in both conventional and enhanced MPCC is analyzed. The simulations are performed under torque and speed variations as well as regenerative braking scenarios. Finally, outcomes demonstrate notable improvements in system response and overall performance, validating the effectiveness of the enhanced control framework.
