Enhancing Performance of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines Through Rotor Surfacing and Flux Guide Optimization
The performance of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSM) machine depends on flux density produced by magnets in rotor. The path taken by the flux lines depends on the reluctance offered by the rotor and stator making rotor surfacing and the flux guides a crucial part of machine design. This paper explores the impact of rotor surfacing and flux guides on reducing torque ripple, improving saliency ratio thereby enhancing power density of PMSM machine. This work covers the design process of flux guides, rotor surfacing. It also provides valuable insights into their effects on electromagnetic parameters such as torque, air gap flux density, flux linkage, back EMF (B_EMF), direct axis inductance <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(L_{d})$</tex> and quadrature axis inductances <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(L_{q})$</tex>, as well as core and copper losses of the machine. The findings contribute to developing efficient and compact electric machine, which are crucial for various electrical applications.
