Optimal Design and Performance Analysis of Model Predictive Control for EV Charging Application

The proposed work mainly focusses on the implementation of finite control set based model predictive control technique for the second-stage OBC (On-Board Charger) to control the power flow from the main grid to an Electric Vehicle (EV) battery. Conventionally, Power converters can be controlled by certain traditional techniques, such as direct power control and proportional integral control. Although these conventional techniques exhibit satisfactory performance under steady state operation but heavily suffers during dynamic operating conditions. Therefore, in the proposed work a model predictive control (MPC) has been implemented where the switching states have been adaptably estimated as per the dynamic operating conditions. The design and performance analysis of MPC has been thoroughly presented and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment. The simulation results have been extensively presented under different operating conditions to validate the effectiveness of proposed control technique.
