Charging Area Based State of Health Estimation of Lithium-Ion Battery Pack For EV Applications

This research paper presents an innovative approach for estimating the State of Health (SoH) of Lithium-Ion Battery Packs used in Electric Vehicle (EV) applications. The proposed methodology introduces the concept of Area between Capacity and Charging Time (ACCT) as a metric for quantifying battery degradation. By analyzing the area between the capacity and charging time curves obtained from battery testing data, the ACCT method offers a holistic assessment of battery health, capturing both capacity fade and aging effects. Through extensive experimental validation using real-world EV battery datasets, the effectiveness and accuracy of the ACCT method are demonstrated. The results indicate that the ACCT-based SoH estimation approach outperforms conventional techniques, providing valuable insights for battery management systems and facilitating the optimization of electric vehicle performance and longevity. This work extends the support to the long term beneficial change needed in the field of monitoring and the assessment of the Battery health, and hence supporting the development of sustainable and resilient electric transportation systems.
