A PV Grid Tied Modified Z-Source Inverter for an Inductive Wireless EV Charging System

Solar energy is widely used in residential and commercial applications, and energy storage systems play an important role in managing fluctuations in energy supply. Z-source inverter technology emerged as a simple solution for power conversion, enabling efficient charging of electric vehicle batteries and integration of wireless coil systems. This innovative technology eliminates the need for multiple switching stages by combining voltage amplification and DC-to-AC power conversion into one efficient system. Passive components such as capacitors and inductors are essential to integrate energy storage systems into Z-source converters to improve their overall efficiency and versatility. The research presented in the article focuses on the research, development, and operation of a state-of-the-art Z-source inverter (ZSI). The improved ZSI is designed with a split primary coil and an insulated secondary coil connected to a battery charger designed for charging DC electric vehicle batteries. Both simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the performance of the proposed inverter, which demonstrates its potential in real-world applications and shows its ability to efficiently charge electric vehicle batteries using wireless charging technology.
