Digital Evaluation of Li-Ion Cells: Impact of concentration Based Diffusivity on P2D Models
Every EV manufacturer is focused on using an energy storage system which provides exceptional energy density, long cycle life and weighs as low as possible. With an increase in the research and development of different battery materials, there is a plethora of battery chemistries which can quickly adapt to the fast-moving world of electric mobility. While the EV industry or more importantly the battery industry is still booming, a lot of focus is shifted towards understanding the internal phenomenon of a cell which governs its working. The equivalent circuit models simplify the representation of an electrochemical system by using resistors, capacitors, inductors and other electrical components, however electrochemical models such as the pseudo-2-dimensional model enables us to understand the internal phenomenon that govern the performance of the cell. This work highlights the importance of incorporating concentration dependent diffusivity in P2D models and compares the impact of concentration dependent and concentration independent diffusivity models on terminal voltage at higher Crates.
