Frequency Control of Two Area Thermal-Hydro System Using HSSDEA Based PIDF Controller
Frequency in power systems experiences continual variations, making the load frequency control problem challenging to address. This paper presents a solution to this problem, considering a two-area system, featuring thermal and hydropower plants in the respective areas. The study encompasses comprehensive modeling of both hydro and thermal generators. For frequency regulation, a proportional integral derivative with a filter (PIDF) controller is applied. Controller gains are optimized using a hybrid salp swarm differential evolution algorithm (HSSDEA). The efficacy of the proposed HSSDEA-based PIDF controller for enhancing frequency regulation is compared to conventional I and PI controllers. Sensitivity analysis has also been carried out by varying certain parameters to assess controller robustness.
