Estimation of Transmitter Coil Separation for Enhanced Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer

Dynamic Wireless Charging (DWC) systems provide a promising solution for electric vehicle (EV) charging on the move, enabling continuous replenishment of the vehicle's battery while in motion. The infrastructure for dynamic charging can either be a single long track or a segmented track consisting of multiple transmitter coils. One of the critical aspects of segmented DWC systems lies in the spacing between adjacent transmitter coils, which directly influences the charging efficiency and effectiveness of the system. An analytical approach has been developed to determine the distance between transmitter coils necessary for transferring the propulsion energy required by a moving EV per kilometer. This analytical method uses the mutual inductance profile of the transmitter and receiver coil to compute the power and the energy transferred from the transmitter coils to the receiver coil along the track to calculate the optimal transmitter parameters. This paper aims to optimize dynamic EV charging infrastructure by investigating how varying transmitter and receiver coil dimensions and air gaps affect distances between coils. The coils used for the analysis are rectangular, and both mathematical method and finite element analysis (FEA) using Ansys Software are employed
