Effect of Harmonics Due to Grid Integration of Electric Vehicles: Case Study and Analysis

Due to the widespread adoption of EVs, the demand for charging infrastructure for electric vehicles is on the rise. EV chargers, which are non-linear loads, generate harmonics, which may affect power quality adversely. Simultaneous charging of huge number of EVs can, thus, strain distribution grids. Therefore, understanding the effect of integrating various EV chargers on the power distribution network is essential. Level 2 15 KW and 25 KW EV chargers are often used for three and four-wheeled vehicles and are the best suited options for charging in a variety of locations, such as workplaces, residences, commercial and public areas. This research examines the effects of installing 15 and 25 KW DC chargers at commercial and public charging stations connected to the power utility network.
