Hexverter Based Medium Voltage Fast-Charger with Medium Frequency Isolation
Fast-charging infrastructure is required for smooth transition from fossil fuel-based mobility to electric mobility where the power rating of the charger can be as high as few hundred kW. This work proposes a medium voltage medium frequency isolated Fast-charging architecture to cater to the need of high-power density charging station in congested cities. The architecture interfaces the medium voltage AC distribution grid and the charger outlet through a Hexverter and active rectifier with medium frequency transformer in-between. The suitability of the converter architecture and its energy management strategy is verified through simulation in MATLAB/Simulink platform for a 50 KW, 400V rated charging outlet.
