Speed Sensor-less Power Hardware In the Loop Emulation of PMDC Machine with Fuzzy Based Observer
This research work examines the implementation of a power hardware in the loop (PHIL) emulation for a permanent magnet DC (PMDC) motor with speed sensor-less operation. The PMDC motor is modelled in software and its behaviour is synthesized with the help of a two level power converter. The emulator power converter is operated in current control mode to synthesize the dynamic back emf and will closely mimic the behaviour of a DC machine. The PMDC drive is operated with speed sensor-less mode and a fuzzy-based speed observer is developed in the drive control system to showcase the operation of speed sensor-less functionality. This observer can be used to smoothly transit from sensor-based control to sensor-less control during the sensor failure scenarios. The PMDC drive and emulator converter operate using a bipolar modulation method, resulting in a single DC link operation. The digital control system and the fuzzy inference system is designed using MATLAB. The speed sensor-less PHIL system is tested with PLECS TMS320F28379D behavioural simulation environment under several dynamic testing conditions and the results are provided.
