Virtual Synchronous Generator Based PV-Battery System with a Current-Fed Switched Inverter
In a two-stage photovoltaic (PV) system, batteries are typically connected to the DC-link via a boost converter, while the PV source is connected through another boost converter to operate at maximum power point tracking (MPPT). Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) control is popularly used in these systems due to its ability to provide inertia support and primary frequency regulation. Additionally, an inverter with high step-up and step-down capabilities, single-stage conversion, and shoot-through immunity is desired for reliable, versatile, and low-distortion AC inversion. While a current-fed switched inverter exhibits desirable qualities, it lacks inertia support and frequency regulation. The proposed approach in this paper implements Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) control in a current-fed switched inverter to meet all the aforementioned requirements by enhancing the performance of the PV-battery system. The effectiveness and advantages of the proposed strategy are validated through MATLAB simulations.
