A Novel Hybrid Virtual Synchronous Control Strategy for Enhanced Grid Resilience in Renewable Energy Integration
A dominant rise in renewable energy (RE) mix into the power grid instigated prominent challenges in grid synchronization and power system stability. Inertia inherited rotational machines play a vital role in grid resilience, which is becoming deficient due to the advent of converter-based sources (CBS) into the grid. Hence, robust converter control strategies are to be implemented to take over the challenges of grid synchronization (GS) and stability. Unlike the conventional phase locked loops (PLL) for GS which intrude on severe disturbances during transients and have slower recovery, the proposed novel hybrid virtual synchronous control (HVSC) incorporates the synthetic torque parameters to the synchronous generator features emphasising an optimal stable system during both transient and steady states, delivering a stable frequency response for seamless grid synchronization. Furthermore, the performance and robustness of the proposed HVSC method are examined by implementing it on the grid-connected voltage source converter (GSC).
