PSFB Converter Based Programmable DC Power Supply

High-frequency power electronic topologies such as phase-shifted full-bridge converters (PSFBs) are widely used in various applications including power supply products. The PSFB converter comprises of four switches that together create a full-bridge structure, a high-frequency transformer, a diode bridge structure, and a suitable control circuit. Since the PSFB converter can operate at high frequencies, it can be used to build compact power supplies. In this work, a 100 kHz switched PSFB converter is designed and developed for a programmable DC power supply requirement. The design aspects of such a programmable power supply based on the PSFB converter are discussed, and its performance is analyzed. The control performance is validated for various time-varying reference profiles, thus emulating a programmable power supply. The converter performance is validated through simulation studies using MATLAB and experimental studies on the developed hardware prototype.
