Wide Speed Range Operation of PMaSynRM for Electric Vehicle Application

This paper discuss about the control algorithm of a PMaSynRM drive for wide speed range operation. The control technique comprises of Maximum Torque per Ampere (MTPA) operation to the base speed followed by flux-weakening operation, till the motor reaches the desired speed of operation. The chances of demagnetizing the air gap flux completely at higher operating speeds is also taken into account through the Maximum Torque per Voltage (MTPV) control during flux weakening. The non-linearity of the motor due to saturation effects are also incorporated in the control for superior performance. The performance evaluation of the proposed control is done in MATLAB/Simulink for dynamic changes in load and speed. A hardware prototype of the proposed MTPA control is also developed and results are evaluated.
