MRAS and $\alpha^{\prime}\beta^{\prime}-{}$ Framed SVPWM Based Modified FS-MPC for PMSM Drive Powered by Five-Level TF-Type Inverter for EV Applications

The integration of space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) and finite set model predictive control (FS-MPC) is essential as it ensures precise motor control by improving voltage quality, reducing torque ripples, and enhancing the dynamic response of multilevel inverters (MLI)-based PMSM drives. However, the execution of SVPWM with a higher level is very complex due to the large number of space vectors and increasing complexity in dwell time calculations. The <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\alpha^{\prime}\beta^{\prime}-{}$</tex> reference framed SVPWM is introduced to simplify the complexity and time burden by eliminating the necessity of trigonometric transformation and lookup table. Furthermore, it is simple and computationally efficient because the dwell time calculation is independent of voltage level. In addition, model reference adaptive system (MRAS) based sensorless control is employed for speed estimation to improve reliability and stability. The effectiveness of the proposed system is verified in various torque-speed scenarios on the MATLAB platform with a five-level TF-type inverter fed PMSM drive for sensorless speed control with MRAS and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\alpha^{\prime}\beta^{\prime}$</tex>-reference framed SVPWM based modified FS-MPC. Finally, this hybrid control technique is functionally validated with a hardware prototype.
