Non-Linear PID Based Power Quality Improvement Using Single-Phase Shunt Active Power Filter
This paper proposes a simple single-phase shunt active power filter (SAPF) control technique. The proposed control technique can improve power quality (PQ) issues like power factor (PF) and harmonics mitigation. The SAPF is comprises of a single-phase voltage source inverter with coupling inductance. Mostly, the PQ issues are related to load currents; hence, proposed control schemes utilize modified load currents under various loadings, and a hysteresis band comparator is used to generate a triggering pulse for SAPF. A nonlinear PID (NPID) controller has been used to regulate the DC voltage of SAPF. The system is tested for different types of loads, including linear load (LL), nonlinear loads (NLL) and a combination of linear and nonlinear loads (NLLL). Simulation is done in a Matlab/ Simulink environment, and the results are presented. The results validate with the lesser transient response time, PF correction and lower THD satisfying IEEE 519–2022.
