A Seven-Level Triple Boost Common Ground Inverter Without H-Bridge
In solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, inverters without transformers are extensively accepted because of their high-power density, decreased <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\text{dv}/\text{dt}$</tex> stress, affordability and enhanced performance. However, leakage current through the ground is a primary issue with transformer-less inverters. This study introduces a modified 7-level common-ground (CG) transformer-less inverter without an H-bridge and with a reduced number of components. It employs switched capacitors (SC) with a single source input to generate a seven-level output, achieving a threefold voltage gain and eliminating ground leakage current via the CG connection. The SC voltages are balanced naturally in each cycle, avoiding the need for sensors or complex controls. The inverter's performance is validated through MATLAB/Simulink simulations and experimental testing, including thermal modelling in PLECS to evaluate efficiency and power losses. Simulation and experimental results confirm the working of the proposed topology.
