Sintering behavior of LiMgPO4 powders, prepared by solution combustion synthesis

Thermodynamic calculations of the standard enthalpy of reaction and adiabatic temperature confirmed the possibility of tuning the combustion reactions exothermicity in the case of LiMgPO 4 , by using oxidizing mixtures of lithium and magnesium nitrates and perchlorates together with citric acid and phosphoric acid. Using the LiClO 4 and Mg(NO 3 ) 2 mixture allowed the formation of pure LiMgPO 4 directly from the combustion reaction, with an average crystallite size of 60 nm. The sintering behavior of LiMgPO 4 powder was investigated by varying the temperature and duration of the sintering process. Increasing the sintering temperature from 900 °C to 1000 °C, for a period of 4 h promoted the increase of the relative density from 76.4 % to 99.3 %. Remarkably, the relative density of LiMgPO 4 sintered at 1000 °C for 30 min was 97.0 %. The obtained results illustrate the excellent sintering behavior of LiMgPO 4 powder prepared by solution combustion synthesis.
