INVESTIGATE THE EFFECT OF HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE AND ARTEMISIA EXTRACT ON SOME REPRODUCTIVE HORMONES IN MALE MICE AT DIFFERENT PERIODS
Hydroxychloroquine sulfate (HCQ) is an antimalarial drug commonly used for the treatment of malaria and numerous rheumatic diseases. The extensive recommendations for usage could be linked to extended treatment periods and elevated daily doses, leading to several toxic effects, including disturbance of the reproductive system.Artemisia is a plant that has gained attention for its potential to treat malaria. The objective of the current study is to assess the impact of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and Artemisia extract several reproductive hormones in male laboratory mice at various time intervals. This study was done using 72 laboratory male mice divided into four groups (18 mice per group): (A) the first group is a control group that received distilled water only, (B) the second group (that received HCQ only, (C) the third group that received both HCQ and Artemisia extract and (D) the fourth group that received Artemisia extract only.Mice were euthanised after 6, 12, and 18 days for each group. The findings indicated that in the group (B) treatments, blood levels of FSH and testosterone hormones considerably reduced after HCQ administration, whilet the HCQ group had significantly higher LH levels than the other groups. Conclusion: HCQ reduced reproductive hormones FSH, testosterone levels while rising LH levels. In the combined analysis of groups C and D, an inverse relationship was observed, characterized by elevated testosterone levels alongside reduced LH levels.
