BIOCHEMICAL EVALUATION OF THE AQUEOUS EXTRACT OF LOQUAT LEAVES ON SOME CHEMICAL VARIABLES IN THE BLOOD OF DIABETIC RATS
The study included studying the biochemical indicators of the extract of the loquat leaves in male laboratory rats induced with diabetes by dosing the animals with alloxan 120 mg/kg to induce the disease. After preparing the aqueous extract, the animals were dosed with the extract at a conc of 200 mg/kg during periods of 15 and 30 days. The animals were separated into 4 groups, one animal per group, the first group was negative control. The second group was induced diabetes by dosing them with alloxan 120 mg/kg, the third group was the group of animals induced with alloxan and treated with the aqueous extract for 15 days, the fourth group is treated with alloxan at 120 mg/kg and the aqueous extract of loquat leaves at 200 mg/kg for 30 days. The results showed a significant decrease in glucose in the blood serum when the animals were treated with the aqueous extract of loquat leaves induced diabetes during the longest treatment period, while there was a significant increase in the level of insulin in the blood of the animals treated with the aqueous extract of loquat leaves. The loquat leaf extract when treated with alloxan didn't cause any significant change P0.05 in vitamin B12 during the treatment periods. The study concludee a significant level P0.05 decrease in the serum levels of cholesterol, lipase, and homocysteine in animals induced with
