EVALUATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ANGIOTENSIN- CONVERTING ENZYME 2 (ACE2) AND DIALYSIS IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE

The level of ACE2 enzyme and some parameters were determined in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients treated with dialysis and compared to the healthy control group, we had separate serum and determined ACE2 level as well as urea, creatinine, vitamin D, phosphate, albumin, GFR, Hb, Iron, uric acid, ALP, AST, ALT activity in the serum. Our results found the normal level of ACE2 in healthy control was (0.470.1 ng/ml).ACE2 level increased significantly in Pre-dialysis patients compared with the control. Also, a significant decrease was observed in the level of ACE2 with age and in smokers comparing non-smokers, while ACE2 level in females is higher than in male patients. The results demonstrated a significant increase in the level of urea, creatinine, uric acid, phosphate, and ALP activity, while there was a significant decrease in the concentration of vitamin D, albumin, GFR, Hb, Iron, AST, and ALT activity.According to the linear correlation coefficient, ACE2 has a negative association with vitamin D, albumin, GFR, Hb, Iron, and AST and ALT activity and a positive correlation with urea, creatinine, phosphate, uric acid, and ALP activity. We concluded that ACE2 level plays an important role as an antioxidant and reduces inflammation in patients with CKD.
