A REVIEW: THE IMPACT OF VITAMIN D SUPPLEMENTATION ON PREGNANT WOMEN WITH IRON-DEFICIENT ANEMIA
During pregnancy, anemia and vitamin D insufficiency are two clinical disorders that coexist.Pregnancy-related vitamin D deficit may elevate the risk of anemia, whereas raising vitamin D can raise hemoglobin level.A public health hazard, Serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D levels below 20 ng/ml are considered to represent a vitamin D insufficiency.Dietary practices and insufficient exposure to sunshine are major factors strongly linked to its insufficiency. The situation is projected to worsen due to a lifestyle that includes few outdoor activities and rising pollution brought on by urbanization.Numerous studies have connected impairments in skeletal integrity and maternal and fetal skeletal indicators to inadequate vitamin D intake.Another prevalent issue during pregnancy is anemia in mothers, which was related to an elevated risk of intrauterine growth restriction, preterm delivery, low birth weight, then unfavorable perinatal consequences.During pregnancy, anemia and vitamin D deficiencies are two coexisting clinical conditions.Vitamin D insufficiency has been concomitant with elevated hepcidin mRNA expression, which decreases ferroportin levels required for iron absorption, according to research. This suggests that pregnant women with adequate serum levels of vitamin D may be further protected against iron deficiency.
