RESPONSE OF BROAD BEAN (VICIA FABA L.) TO PLANTING DISTANCES BETWEEN PITS AND ROWS AND DETERMINING THEIR EFFECT ON GROWTH AND YIELD TRAITS
The purpose of this field experiment was to determine the following about the broad bean (Vicia faba L.) crop in Babylon province/Al-Mashrou' District during the winter of 2023-2024: how the plants responded to different planting distances between pits and rows, and how much of an impact this had on growth and yield characteristics.Employing a three-replicate randomized complete block design (RCBD).In order to examine the impact of two variables, the planting row spacing (40, 50, and 60 cm) and the pit spacing (20, 25, and 30 cm).According to the statistical analysis, the planting distances between pits had a significant impact on the traits measured. For example, at 30 cm, the average number of branches per plant was 5.99, the average number of pods per plant was 15.54, the average number of seeds per pod was 4.30, and the average pod length was 22.63 cm.On the other hand, at 20 cm, the average plant height was 109.84 cm.The average values for the traits of branch number, pod number, seed number, and pod length were all highest at 60 cm, indicating that planting lengths between rows had a substantial impact. There were 6.74 branches per plant, 18.05 pods per plant, 5.15 seeds per pod, and a total of 24.43 cm as measured against a distance of 40 cm, which yielded 124.27 cm as the highest average for the plant height trait alone. There was a statistically significant influence on the bi-interaction results; for example, the combination (60 and 30) produced the best average of 6.81 branches, pods, and seeds.twentyfour.89centimeters; plant-1; 19.77 pods; and 5.21 seeds per pod.
