EVALUATION OF THE ANTIOXIDANT PROPERTIES OF THE ACTIVE COMPOUNDS IN THE EXTRACT OF ALHAGI MAURORUM (FABACEAE) AND ITS TOXIC EFFECT ON SOME STAGES OF THE SAW-TOOTHED GRAIN BEETLE ORYZAEPHILUS SURINAMENSIS

Basrah, to identify the active compounds and antioxidant properties of the Alhagi maurorum Medik., as well as its toxicity to some roles of the saw-toothed grain beetle (Oryzaephilus surinamensis).Chemical analysis of the ethanolic extract of the plant was carried out using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).Analysis and identification of the active compounds in A. maurorum revealed that it contained 14 chemical compounds, with the highest percentage of compounds recorded for 9-Hexadecanoic acid, methyl ester at 45.22%, followed by 8,11-Octadecenoic acid, methyl ester at 17.63%, and then Methyl stearate at 11.55%.The results showed that the extract has significant effectiveness in its role as an antioxidant and free radical scavenger. It became clear that the higher the concentration, the greater the inhibitory effectiveness of the studied extract in scavenging the free radical DPPH.It was better at the high concentration of 75 micrograms/ml, reaching 97.75 micrograms/ml.The lowest value was at a concentration of 10 micrograms/ml, which was 35.33 micrograms/ml.Vitamin C was found to be better at a high concentration of 75
