Numerical Analysis of Seakeeping Performance for Warship Catamaran: the Effects of S/L Ratios and Wave Headings

Abstract The seakeeping ability of warship catamaran is thoroughly analyzed in this work utilizing numerical methods. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tests were carried out using Ansys Aqwa at a forward speed of 40 knots, with irregular waves and a Pierson-Moskowitz spectrum. Concurrently, CFD simulations were performed using a boundary element method to compute the Response Amplitude Operators (RAOs) for heave, pitch, and roll motions in various separation-to-length (S/L) ratios and wave directions. The study seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of how asymmetrical hull warship catamaran perform in a variety of sea conditions. This method provides for the assessment of elements influencing seakeeping, such as hull configuration, wave characteristics, operational parameters, variations in ship S/L of 0.2, 0.3,0,4 and different wave headings of 0°, 90°, and 180°. At a wave heading of 90°, the largest motion was observed for an S/L 0.2 in the roll motion. At a wave heading of 180° the largest motion was observed for an S/L 0.3 in the heave and pitch motions.
