IoT Based Early Monitoring System for Air Quality Assessment

Abstract In the last decade, climate change has become a pressing global issue. It is triggering the need for sustainable solutions to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. However, air pollution in maritime zones is often overlooked despite its significant impact on the environment. This commitment will be implemented through the implementation of green ports throughout Indonesia. After the Covid-19 pandemic, economic activities have begun to increase again, the number of ships arriving or crossing Indonesian sea lanes tends to increase. This needs attention because the increase in shipping activities will be directly proportional to the consumption of fuel oil which will later increase ship exhaust emissions such as COx, NOx, SOx. This paper introduces an IoT-based early detection system for assessing marine air pollution problems. The system is equipped with smart sensors to detect COx, NOx, SOx from vessel. The emission data is collected and analysed in real-time to identify their pollution level. This innovation is expected as the basis as an effort to reduce emissions in the maritime sector, in line with the net zero emission target of 2050.
