Identifikasi Molekuler Bakteri Endofit: Peluang Penemuan Kandidat Antibiotik dan Antikanker Baru

Approximately 700,000 people die each year from multi-drug resistance (MDR) infections and this number could increase to 10 million per year by 2050. This is exacerbated by the decreasing number of new antibiotic discoveries. Endophytic bacteria, which reside in healthy plant tissues, have attracted significant attention due to their ability to produce a variety of bioactive compounds, some of which exhibit strong antimicrobial and anticancer activities. This review article aims to explore the diversity of endophytic bacteria from various types of plant hosts, and the compounds they produce, thus opening up new opportunities for the development of new antibiotics and anticancer agents. Each microbe, especially bacteria from different plant hosts, has antimicrobial activity on some microbes, some have broader and more effective activity. Likewise, anticancer, from each endophytic bacteria have diverse activities against cancer. The diversity of antimicrobial and anticancer agents derived from endophytic microorganisms is very promising in efforts to combat MDR infections and increase cancer disease.
