Adaptive Narrowband Compensation Algorithm for Active Control of the Pressure Pulsation Line Spectrum in A Liquid Pipeline System

Active noise control technology provides a means for actively controlling pipeline pulsations. The control signal emitted by the secondary source feeds back into the reference input signal, thereby generating a pulsation coupling phenomenon. This paper describes an online modeling variable step‐size algorithm for studying the acoustic feedback path under strong interference conditions in response to such “acoustic feedback.” Intelligent control of additional noise is achieved using a threshold switch, which produces neutralizing signals via a compensator filter to counteract the acoustic feedback. Owing to the standing wave effect in the pipeline, the spectral characteristics of the reference input signal are prominent and vary over time. To facilitate tracking of the line spectrum, an automatic frequency tracking study is conducted to extract characteristic line spectra in real time. Herein, an adaptive narrowband compensation algorithm based on frequency automatic tracking and acoustic feedback compensation is proposed. The practical application of the developed algorithm on a DN25 hydraulic pipeline demonstrates successful control (approximately 10 dB) of the pulsation line spectra under various working conditions.
