Leveraging Data to Guide Strategic Choices for Well Integrity Management

Abstract Well integrity management is a vital process to ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of all types of wells. Data is essential for this process "Data is the new Oil", as it enables monitoring, diagnosis, and optimization of the well condition and operation. However, raw data by itself is not sufficient to make effective decisions. Data needs to be converted quickly into actionable information and knowledge, which can support strategic planning, risk evaluation, and optimization of well integrity management. Well Integrity Management Standard document proposes a framework for using data for strategic decision making in well integrity management. The framework has four main components: data acquisition and validation, data processing, data analysis, and data visualization. Each component involves a set of methods, tools, and best practices to ensure the quality, accuracy, and relevance of the data and the information obtained from it. The paper also examines the benefits and challenges of applying the framework, as well as some case studies and examples of how data can enhance well integrity management outcomes. Some of the immediate benefits included reduction in threats, improved reliability due to implementation of standardized preventative maintenance schedule for Wells' Safety Critical Equipment. Optimization of well-integrity tasks based on improved reliability led to cost savings. During this time lots of lessons were captured and the best practices implemented for continuous improvement. Effective Flow assurance plan and prediction for corrosion and scale management gave good results to slow down degradation of tubulars and sustained production. Proactive implementation of cost-effective initiatives for remediation and mitigation of risks led to uninterrupted production / injection operations and helped in reducing the carbon footprint at the same time. Other benefits include: Maintain production / Injection from existing wells with minimal interruption Start & Maintain production / Injection from the newly drilled wells due to smooth handover process Effective well monitoring and fast-track diagnostic Maintained motivated well integrity organization by in-house training program enabling them to manage the increased number of wells in addition to the existing aged wells The paper presents the way ADNOC offshore is using this data in decision making to improve efficiency and maintain 100% HSE which is in our DNA. Building processes to enhance quick decision making to mitigate the risks and provide ready template for action tracking for accountability.
