Leveraging Artificial Intelligence Models for Enhanced Operational Efficiency in the Oil & Gas Industry: Driving Production, Safety, and Cost Optimization

Abstract The oil and gas industry is undergoing and experiencing a significant transformation via the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. AI models are pivotal in improving operational efficiency, enhancing safety measures, and optimizing costs in upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors. This paper explores AI applications in oil & gas operations leading to seamless detection of process upsets, hazard identification &, and overall process optimization. The findings of this paper show that AI-driven solutions allow for more intelligent decision-making as they will be able to display all pertaining information required as a pre-requisite before making any decision. Furthermore, it will allow for increased efficiency and higher environmental compliance while addressing operational challenges. However, the successful implementation of AI models does not come without challenges, in which many barriers require overcoming, such as data quality, integration with legacy systems, and overall network latency and connectivity.
