SPMs Line Flushing Method to Improve Reliability & Availability

Abstract Although, many oils operating companies have their method of hose flushing and most include hiring tankers. This leads to long terminal outages during peak demands due to tanker availability. It also involves treating the contaminated oil in other locations leading to losses in terms charges, oil quantity discrepancy, tanker availability etc. This proposal uses all internal resources, and the treatment of the contaminated oil is also done in-house - maximizing the value through a closed system with no external costs/loss. Thereby, future proofing the routine planned/unplanned hose changeout and maintenance activity. All individual components utilized are proven and are available at any time. It is simple and easy to implement with no major studies required. This innovative initiative proactively addressed and mitigated the risks and challenges - ensuring sustainability and business continuity. The outage of the SPM terminal is within the present tank ullage capacities and no production impact is envisaged. The hose change-out can be scheduled at any time based on integrity/emergency requirements. The document discusses an innovative method for flushing Single Point Mooring (SPM) hoses to improve reliability and availability, highlighting the benefits of using in-house resources over hiring external crude oil tankers.
