MODIFICATION OF RHEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF ASPHALT USING POLYPROPYLENE WASTE
Al-Qiayarah asphalt was modified by catalytic treatment with polypropylene waste(PW) in order to obtain an asphalt material with rheological properties that can be used for various purposes where the use of regular non-modified asphalt is not suitable, in addition to using polypropylene waste (P.P) found in the landfill in the form of wast water bottles that are spread everywhere, which is considered an important step to contribute to controlling and reducing environmental pollution.Mixing asphalt with polypropylene waste with weight ratios (1, 2, 3)% ,at 180C and different times, the rheological properties (Ductility, Penetration, Softening Point, Penetration Index) are calculated as a measure of the change in the chemical structure of asphaltic material. Also, study the effect of rheological modification on the functional units of asphalt using FTIR spectrometry. The results showed that some of the prepared asphalt samples can be used as paving asphalt, and some of them were characterized by high flexibility, permeability and low elongation, and can be used to mastic and also for flattening.
