GENOTYPES OF BLASTOCYSTIS HOMINIS ISOLATED FROM IRAQI PATIENTS WITH IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME

a total of 172 stool samples were collected from patients and healthy control participants attending the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Unit at the Digestive System Medical City/Baghdad Hospital.Sixty eight individuals with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) were found to have Blastocystis hominis (39.5 percent).Because the clinical complaint with the greatest rate (57.3 percent) was stomach discomfort and flatulence, which was statistically highly significant (p0.01).39 out of 58.6 percent were statistically significant (p0.05).In comparison, the clinical symptom with the lowest rate (10.3 percent) was statistically insignificant (p0.05).B. hominis genotypes were identified using restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis of PCR amplified small subunit rDNA.
