A HISTOLOGICAL STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF VIBRIO CHOLERAE AND ITS ENTEROTOXIN ON PREGNANT MICE
Background: Gram-negative bacteria from the genus Vibrio have curved rod-like shapes and only one polar flagellum for movement.Worldwide, there have been several cholera pandemics. The cholera pandemic is rapidly spreading throughout the world. The enterotoxin protein known as cholera toxin is produced by Vibrio cholerae (V.cholerae).It damages animal tissues by causing a variety of effects.Aim: In this study, albino mice (pregnant and not pregnant) were used to compare the effects of Vibrio cholera and its toxins on the histopathological and related changes. Methods: ten different groups of six-week-old mice each were used.A milliliter of partially purified enterotoxin was administered orally to one animal, and two-fold dilutions (1/10,1/20) were given to the other, all to ensure their survival. The enterotoxin concentrations in these dilutions were between 55 and 45 ug/ml.A sterile injection of regular saline was given to the control group. Results: According to the bacterial culture results, 45 samples (18%) had positive microbial cultures and 205 samples (82%) had negative microbial cultures. With 1 (0.4%) of the total samples, the age group of 51 to 60 had the lowest infection rate in a single sample. With 20 samples and an 8% percentage, the age group between 21 and 30 had the highest infection rate.Upon dissecting the animals, it was observed that the large and small intestines had both enlarged and that there was a buildup of fluid in the body cavity. Not only was there widespread necrosis in the heart cells, but there was also irregularity in the fibers surrounding the heart cells. When compared to the hearts of control mice, the female mice's hearts showed a greater degree of necrosis and fatty infiltration along with neutrophil and plasma cell infiltration from the enterotoxin extract. The intestines of pregnant female mice harboring V.
