STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS EXFOLIATIVE TOXIN TYPE D IS HIGHLY ASSOCIATED WITH TONSILLITIS THAN URINARY TRACT INFECTION IN IRAQI CASES
The etD gene of Staphylococcus aureus codes for an exfoliative toxin that is important in throat infections caused by staphylococci.Contrary to toxins A and B, etD is involved in the H. pylori induced epithelial cell damage and inflammation in the throat tissues due to loss of keratinocyte adherence. Some of these recent studies also propose etD to be crucial in S. aureus strains that cause throat infection, and argue that differences in etD can influence the severity of the infection.Determination of levels of etD in clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus is vital in addressing factors contributing to the persistence and control of S. aureus induced throat infections.Study Aims: The purpose of this work was to diagnose Staphylococcus aureus in throat lesions and to recognize etD-positive ones.Materials and Methods: Altogether, 25 throat samples of S. aureus in isolation manner were studied. The isolation and identification were checked via 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and the amplification of the etD gene by conventional PCR.Results: In this study all our isolate belong to Staphylococcus aureus. However, detecting the etD gene was possible in approximately 16% of the throat isolates and was not possible in any of the urinary tract isolates.
