CITIZENS, INTELLECTUALS, AND THE URBAN ECOLOGICAL WAVE IN EARLY 21ST CENTURY VIETNAMESE NOVELS
Along with the level of industrialization and urbanization like a storm, the ecological and human environment crisis is becoming increasingly serious. This has been clearly shown in the early 21st-century novels such as Gần như là sống (Almost Living) by Do Phan, Thị dân tiểu thuyết (Novel of Urban Citizens) by Nguyen Viet Ha, Cửa hiệu giặt là (Laundry Shop) by Do Bich Thuy. In these works, humans not only have to face difficulties and challenges when nature is changed and destroyed but also suffer psychological traumas due to urbanization. From exploring the traumas of urban people, dissecting current urban ecological issues, the article contributes to decoding the message in these novels: the intimate link between the consciousness of protecting nature and preserving the authentic values of urban and intellectual life.
