Polymer Property Prediction Model for an Industrial Two‐Stage Ethylene‐Propylene Copolymerization Reactor

A comprehensive model for the product property prediction based on coupling polymerization kinetics, product property model, and continuously stirred tank reactor model was established to simulate a two‐stage industrial ethylene‐propylene copolymerization reactor. The method of moment was applied to solve the polymerization kinetics. The model performance was validated by the data obtained in industrial reactors, and the comparison results illustrated a good applicability of the developed model. The influences of the hydrogen concentration, the inlet ethylene concentration, the gas volumetric flow rate and the average particle volume fraction on product properties were further investigated by simulation. This work could provide a valuable method for the optimization of operation parameters of industrial polypropylene reactor to obtain polypropylene products with better structural properties.
