APPLICATION OF IR ABSORPTION FOURIER SPECTROSCOPY FOR IDENTIFICATION OF CRUDE OILS OF THE ABSHERON PENINSULA OF AZERBAIJAN
Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) provides useful information about various chemical inclusions in crude oil. In particular, it is possible to qualitatively determine the presence or absence of functional groups of carbohydrogenic hydrocarbons. It is known that there are 12 oil and gas production companies in the Republic of Azerbaijan, including 8 owned by Azerbaijan and 4 owned by joint ventures. In most cases involving oil spills, it is advisable to have more than one analytical method to determine the suspected source of the crude oil spill and its properties. In previously published articles, we presented the results of the fluorescence and Raman scattering spectra of crude oils taken from 12 oil- and gas- producing companies in Azerbaijan. In these articles, the characteristic features of the observed spectra were also analyzed. In submitted article, we present the results of the first measured infrared absorption spectra of crude oils obtained from 6 oil and gas producing companies (OGPC) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
